Originally, Bar Mitzvah (translated: man of the commandment) signified the coming of age of Jewish males, in which they had gained the age of accountability, a time when he was responsible for his own actions. In Biblical times, the age of twenty signified the coming of age, but in Talmudic times, the age changed to thirteen, and in recognition of the son’s change in status, instead of the modern celebratory bar mitzvah, the father said a simple blessing praising God, because he was no longer responsible for anything his son might do. At bar mitzvah, the Jewish male can participate fully in his religion, and be held responsible for following the dictates of the Jewish faith. Bar Mitzvah is the symbolic rite of passage from being a child, to being an adult, and fully participating in the adult facets of Judaism, laying tifillin, and being called up for the reading of the Torah.
Traditionally, the celebration begins during a service, in the synagogue, followed by a celebration dinner with family and friends. Many Jewish families then throw a party to celebrate Bar Mitzvah. Some travel to the Holy Lands, some have festive celebrations in clubs, or in their homes, and in some strict sects, there is no celebration outside the synagogue.
Larger cities have catering and party services who do all the work for the Bar Mitzvah, including supervision. If these services are available, a great hall is normally rented, and the guests all bring gifts for the one who has attained Bar Mitzvah. Often these are not co-ed parties, but occasionally they are. In coed parties, music is supplied by a DJ, there are lights, dancing, party food, drinks, and revelry. One particularly fun idea for Bar Mitzvah is a sports theme. Tables can be decorated in a sports motif, and games like Nerf basketball, baseball, and football can be set up. If the weather is pleasant, the celebration can be outdoors, and real games of basketball, softball, and touch football can be organized. The basketballs, softballs, bats, and footballs can be personalized, and each of the youthful guests can take one home as a party favor. For a Jewish youth, becoming a Bar Mitzvah is a rite of passage like no other, and no matter how simple or elaborate the celebration, it is the religious implications are life altering.

You would think a 60.00 Baby Monitor system could work for longer than a year….but no luck.
I loved this monitor for a year, but now it completely blanks out and cuts off randomly. I have woken up twice now to my daughter in my room (she is 2, and recently switched to a twin bed which she can get in and out of) I can usually hear her on the monitor climbing out of the bed, and then I can meet her in the hall, or in her room, but since the monitor decides when it wants to work, and when it doesn’t, I can’t monitor her safety at night. I am fed up with Fischer Price, this is the second time this has happened.

We have used this every day and night for 2 years and love it! We have never had a problem with it shutting off suddenly. It really does have a great reach, we can use it when we are outside doing yardwork or playing with our oldest son–and we live on a fairly large lot. The only thing I don’t like: one of the receivers stopped working after the first year, but it doesn’t matter since we only need one. I’m now trying to find another monitor for our second child. I’ll probably end up buying this one again since we love it so much!

This product works really well for about 6-7 months, after which time it begins to have "black outs" where all sound cuts out for up to a minute. We have a white noise machine that we can hear humming over the monitor, so when it cuts out suddenly we know. If your baby’s room was typically silent, it would be impossible to know. Eventually, it just stops turning on when you click the switch, even after it has just been charged. I know that some companies make products that are designed to fail eventually so that you are forced to buy a new one, throw the old one away, and contribute to both the growth of the economy as well as the growth of landfills… but a baby monitor? Come on.

Flowers are a popular accessory to use for party decorations but, you may need a few tips to help your decorations go from fair to fabulous. Decide what kinds of flower go with the kind of party you’re going to throw. Roses are romantic, tulips are elegant, daisies or sunflowers are whimsical and carnations are casual.
You can use real or silk flowers for your centerpieces or for table top decorations. You may want to arrange centerpieces ahead of time so that all of your party preparations don’t have to be done at the last minute. Silk flowers are perfect for this accommodation.
If you want to help fresh flowers last longer there are a few things you need to do. Make sure that you use only healthy flowers. There should be no brown spots or wilting pedals. Cut the stems of the flowers at an angle underwater, place the flowers in lukewarm water and add a little lemon-lime soda to the water to give your flowers an extra punch.
If you are using flowers for centerpieces keep the arrangements high for a buffet table, low and long for a sit-down dinner and small and scaled down for smaller tables. Use unique and inventive items to place the flowers in. Look for elegant shaped vases, beautiful bowls or even silver or metal trays.
To create interest and beauty to your centerpieces fill the bottom of clear vases with colored stone or add floating candles to a centerpiece with few flowers. Using an online florist such as www.florists.tk will save you time. Shopping on the internet you can find all of the supplies you will need to create a wonderful setting for your party.
Another flower tip is to only use the petals of flowers in your decorating. Using this method is a great way to use your own flowers that are not picture perfect. Sprinkle pedals on table tops and other flat surfaces with a few candles as your decorative statement.
