Places to Stay in Florida in Your RV

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 30, 2007

Florida is a hot destination on the RV circuit give the amazing year around climate. RV facilities can be hit and miss, so here are some you can count on.

Aside from California and New York, there really isn’t a more visited state than Florida. Miles of beaches on this southernmost state, along with attractions such as amusement parks, aquariums and more offer families a wide range of activities. There is so much to see and do in Florida that you could spend an entire season exploring the many sites throughout the state - which is why traveling to Florida in a recreational vehicle, or RV, is such a great idea. You can take your time and stop at the many RV facilities to spend the night along the way.

The most visited area in Florida is arguably Orlando and the surrounding areas such as Kissimmee. This is because Orlando is where the Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts are located, and when people think of a place to go in Florida, they usually think of Disney. There are many other regions to explore in the state, but if you have small children, you will probably be drawn here to the center of Florida (away from the beaches and the beauty of the Everglades and other natural areas). Of course, this area also has a high concentration of RV parks, to fill the needs of families.

If you’d like to stay within the Disney resort, there is one place you should check into. It’s known as the Fort Wilderness Resort, and it is located on the Disney resort property. If you choose to stay here, you can expect to find all of the amenities and beauty that Disney has to offer. The sites here are located within 740 acres of woodland forest, and by parking your RV in one of the Disney hookups, you also gain the ability to take part in the many activities and other amenities that are found at Disney resort hotels such as character breakfasts, early admission to the theme parks, and shuttle buses.

Staying within the Orlando area, but not at the Disney resort is also an option. The Tropical Palms Fun Resort, located just bordering on the Walt Disney World Resort, offers families a less expensive option than staying within the resort, but offers many of the amenities as well as the closeness of the Disney resort. The hookups here range from something they call the “Super Site” with electric, water, sewer, cable, paved area and patio, and picnic table - down to the simple water and electric sites. The other amenities in the facilities include pools, cafes, wireless Internet service, a business center and a general store.

Picking Florida for your next family vacation is definitely going to make your entire family happy. From adults to kids, everyone loves the thrill of a warm Florida vacation, with or without a stop at the Disney theme parks.

New Year’s Eve Celebrating New Beginnings

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 29, 2007

Since New Years Eve party locations tend to be held indoors, just a bit of planning and creativity can make yours, the New Year’s Even Party to remember! Just choose a unique location (such as a rental hall, club, or central gathering place, like a restaurant or even church fellowship hall) or you can even transform a room in your own home into a festive setting. Choosing a theme, allowing your invitations and decorations to set the stage, and taking time for the special touches, like lighting, food, and party favors, can make your New Year’s Eve party one to remember.

Invitation Ideas

Roll up computer generated, parchment invitations, in small wine bottles to be hand delivered.

Unroll noisemakers, and write your invitations on the tails. They can be mailed in small envelopes or delivered by hand.

Blow up a balloon, write your party details in glittery ink, and deflate the balloon to send to your friends in a small envelope.

Put some confetti in the envelope along with the invitation.

Draw, or print a clock graphic, with hands pointing to midnight, onto card stock, with all your party information on the back.

Decorations

Spread confetti, glitter, and curlicues on tables.

Hang crepe streamers from the ceiling.

Using a balloon drop kit, fill an assortment of latex balloons with air, and hang from the ceiling. At midnight, pull the cord, and have your own balloon drop.

Another option is to insert a funnel into deflated balloons and put confetti inside, then fill balloons with helium. Tie the balloons with colorful ribbon, and let them float up to the ceiling. At midnight, everyone can pull down a balloon and pop it.

Candles or dim lights will add to the festive atmosphere.

Diabetes Latino Kids May Develop Type 2 Diabetes Due To A High-sugar Diet

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 28, 2007

Diet is quite an important matter for diabetic people. Everything they eat may have a consequence positive or not in their disease evolution. According to researchers from Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California, overweight Latino children show signs of beta cell decline, a precursor of type 2 diabetes because they are consuming lots of sugar especially in sugary drinks.

Nowadays, statistics show that nearly one out of four Latino children in the United States is overweight, and the problem appears to be worse over the future. Obesity rates are increasing along with the incidence of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes within overweight teens. Under a researchers’ report published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, high sugar consumption during childhood may play an important role in the development of diabetes in this population.

According to experts in preventive medicine, overweight and poor diet among these children could have disastrous consequences for minority health and the health-care costs for future generations, if they are left untreated.

The research called Study of Latinos at Risk (SOLAR) Diabetes Project is conducted by the research team from the Keck School. This project examined 63 overweight Latino children in Los Angeles from 9 to 13 years old and do not have diabetes.

Beta cells in the pancreas, experts explain, create the hormone insulin in response to sugar from food. Energy is something necessary to cells in the body’s tissues, so they need sugar, or glucose, and insulin helps cells grab and take up glucose in the blood.

Dora the Explorer Birthday Party Learning the Right Way!

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 27, 2007

Dora is one of the most popular Nick Jr. Characters, and fortunately, there are many online printable Dora theme party pictures and coloring pages. There are also plenty of Dora party items, like plates, party favors, cups, and games available at party specialty stores, online, or in department stores.

First consider the age of the birthday boy or girl, and formulate a guest list accordingly. The general age range for Dora birthday parties is from age two to six. Depending on the age, the guest list, and the appropriate activities will vary. A two-year-old will be happiest and most comfortable with a smaller crowd of familiar faces, a six-year-old may choose to invite her whole class or Sunday school class for the party as well as family members. The key is making the party appropriate for the age group.

Invitations should be sent, preferably with a map to the party location, specifying the exact date and time for the party. Include the exact time the party will begin and end, and whether or not transportation will be provided. If you plan to provide transportation, the guests should RSVP with directions to their home. Be sure to ask a few helpful adults or teenagers to assist you with party supervision, and everything should run smoothly.

Most local bakeries can scan a photo, and make a cake decorated from that photo. Just look around ahead of time for those and order early. You can even pick up the cake a couple of days early and freeze it to save time.

Dora Party Activities
Print a photo of Dora and several backpacks, and take them to be enlarged and laminated. The party goers can be blindfolded and pin the back pack on Dora (rather than the tail on the donkey) the one who pins it on the best gets to choose a prize from the Dora Prize backpack!

Each child can be given a graham cracker, and they can choose from squirt on icing and different sprinkles or chocolate chips to decorate the cookies, but have plenty of wet wipes available, and just allow the children to eat their masterpieces when they finish.

Dora Party Favors
Make backpacks for each child using purple felt, purple yarn to sew the pieces together with a large yarn needle. Hot glue on wiggly eyes and a piece of white felt for the mouth. These can be personalized with white craft paint, or simply filled with various party favors and given to each child before they leave the party.

Staying with the Mexican theme, you can provide each child with one of the prepackaged soft taco kits (the kind in the refrigerator section that come with a drink and do not have to be reheated) or make soft tacos at home. Just be sure to have plenty to drink, because children work hard at these parties, and get thirsty. With these simple hints and ideas, your child is bound to have the best Dora the Explorer Party imaginable, and all the guests are bound to leave happy!

Some Fairy Princess Party Facts

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 26, 2007

The Fairy Princess is exactly what she sounds like, a princess in fairy land who loves to sing and dance with her friends. The sweet fairy princess looks after all the trees and flowers, birds, caterpillars and all the creatures of the bush land. She has lots and lots of interesting friends who like to spend time in her magical garden where the fairly princess does most of her work.

The Fairy Princesses pals are Pete the Friendly Pirate, Busby the Bee, the Bilbies, the Famous Pixies, her Fairy House, the Pirate Ship and Gazza Galah.

Pete the Friendly Pirate loves to go on adventures and most especially going on dives for buried treasure. He too likes to sing and dance. You’ll often find him on his Pirate Ship, the Good Ship Gum Nut, singing the Pirate Rap with his friendly crew.

Wilby and Silby Bilby live in fairy land across the creek from the fairy house in a place called Currajinalong. They also love music and Silby loves dancing and wants very much to be a Bilberina Star. Wilby is Silby’s older brother, he’s also called ‘Cheeky’ by his friends and he dreams of becoming a rock star along with his band, ‘Wilby and the Rockers.’

The Famous Pixies sounds just like a name for a rock group, and it is. The pixies are musicians who play the guitar, sing pixie songs, and dance pixie dances. They can be a little bit mischievous and often end up in trouble with the fairies for their tricks.

Most of the characters in Fairy land like singing, dancing and having fun parties. Often the Fairy Princess will have a fairy pajama party in her fairy house and invite all of her friends to stay the night. There’s never any worry because her house is always big enough to fit everyone.

Overweight Children - What Can A Parent Do To Help Part 2 of 5

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 25, 2007

In Part 1 we looked at the worrying increase in the number of overweight and obese children in the Western world, examined the possible reasons for this increase, and reminded ourselves that there is no magic formula or instant solution. But there are many ways a parent can encourage weight loss in children, which we discuss below and in Parts 3, 4 and 5.

Make weight loss a family affair

The most successful approach is to make your child’s weight loss a family affair. That doesn’t mean that you should single out your child and make the whole family responsible for making sure that they “stick to a diet”. It does mean that the whole family should join in, eating the same healthier foods, increasing their activity levels, and generally improving their lifestyle along with the overweight child.

Obviously this is going to be easier to carry off if your children are young. You can be a direct influence on young children as you are the one buying, preparing, and serving the food, and providing the activities!

“Brainwash” younger children while you can!

Young children are very susceptible to their parents’ attitudes and absorb much of their wisdom willingly! If you casually mention the chemicals and additives in a packet of crisps or a fizzy drink, and read out the ingredients (or better yet, get your child to read or even write them out), you can start to influence the way that children think about food at an early age. Ask your child whether they would prefer to drink a fizzy apple-flavored drink, or eat an apple off the tree. Compare the look and the smell of the two options. Read out that list of chemicals, while polishing the apple to a shine. Make sure that you choose the apple! Most kids aren’t stupid and, if left entirely to their own devices, will gravitate to the real food. Keep up the subtle brainwashing and you will find that children choose the healthier options of their own accord, without feeling like they are missing out at all, and then you have won half the battle!

Encourage your children to see beyond the advertising and packaging

Examine foods often. Buy, and eat, the odd candy bar and then see if you can work out, with your child, what was in it. Can they recognise any part of that candy bar as “real” food? What does it smell like? Does it smell better before or after you eat it? What are the ingredients? How processed are they? Then look at a cherry, or grape, or even a raisin. Ask questions. Do I know what is in this? Which is more real? Which is more natural? Which fills me up more? Which is better for me? Which leaves a better taste in my mouth?

Sit down with your kids in front of the television and watch a load of advertisements together. Ask the kids to choose a food product which they think is designed especially for them, and which they will enjoy. Go out and buy it. Examine it. Subject it to the tests outlined above. Ask questions about the advertising. Why do companies advertise? What are they trying to achieve? Who are they advertising for? Do the advertisements help you? Do they serve any purpose? Even the youngest children will be able to participate in this sort of discussion with help, and becoming resistant to advertising is a very useful lesson to learn young!

Parts 3, 4 and 5 provide many more ideas, tips and tactics for tackling the issues an overweight child faces and encouraging gentle and effective weight loss.

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 24, 2007

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to for families to give thanks for all the blessings they have received over the past year. It’s also a great time to teach your children to do the same. Children taking piano lessons, because they are supported by so many people, have a wonderful opportunity to learn this tradition. You can help them realize how many people are included in their musical community of support and play an important role in helping them reach their musical goals. For most students these would include:

1. Piano Teachers

2. Their Parents and Family

3. Friends who recognize their need to practice

4. Music teachers at school.

5. Choruses they may also be involved in at school or church.

6. Family members who give them music gifts such as CD’s or music books.

7. The Piano Technician who tunes your piano and keeps it good playing condition.

8. Other piano students who share their enthusiasm for music with them.

9. The local music store that provides a great selection of music for teachers to choose for their students.

10. The Piano Sales Gallery that also provides a wonderful piano and Recital Hall where students perform for their family and friends and for auditions.

That’s a lot to be thankful for! So take a few minutes to help your child one night at the dinner table this holiday season, or on Thanksgiving Day, give thanks for all their musical blessings.

Piano Basics for Beginners - Pay Attention to the Simple Stuff

Posted by User Imageadmin on September 23, 2007

Children beginning piano usually have ideas about piano lessons from television, the movies, and their own imaginations which may not be accurate. To make sure your beginner in piano lessons has realistic expectations help them stay focused on the basics - simple things that make a big difference. Here are five simple steps that give amazing results.

1. Attending weekly lessons - Students who are excited about starting lessons quickly lose interest when they miss their lessons and forget what the teacher has shown them. Having to start over an over again is discouraging.

2. Bringing music books to every lesson - No books, no plan. No plan, no progress.

3. Setting aside a routine daily practice time - Keeping a routine is the best because it builds the practice habit and that’s most of the battle. At any given time there will be a choice of how to spend that time. When this decision is make ahead of time it is a lot easier for kids to stay focused on their goals.

4. Follow the teacher’s practice instructions - Good habits are very important. Even if they seem too simple, take them seriously.

5. Attend piano recitals and activities that set important learning goals - Goals are important because they give us direction and something to work toward. Recitals target specific learning goals that will help piano students achieve their musical dreams.

By following these five simple steps your child in piano will stay on track for a great piano year of progress and achieve the skills they need to reach their musical dreams.
